The Seattle Mariners: A Team So Good, Two of Them Made the Hall of Fame (Finally!)
The Seattle Mariners. A team known for...well, their incredible fans (seriously, you guys are loud!), that iconic ballpark with the fake fish that shoots water (we all love it!), and...uhhh...maybe not quite World Series appearances (yet!). But hey, you can't win 'em all, right? Except, apparently, when it comes to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. There, the Mariners shine a little brighter.
Not Quite Cooperstown Crowded, But Getting There!
That's right, folks! The Mariners may not have a ring, but they do have a couple of legends enshrined in Cooperstown (or at least guys who deserve a bronze statue outside Safeco Field):
- Ken Griffey Jr., the Kid: This one's a no-brainer. Griffey Jr. was pure magic in Seattle, with a swing so sweet it could cure diabetes (okay, maybe not, but it was pretty darn close). His induction in 2016 was a day for all Mariner fans to celebrate.
- Edgar Martinez, the Man: Nicknamed "Big Papi" (not to be confused with David Ortiz!), Edgar Martinez was a hitting machine for the Mariners. He could take a pitcher deep with one swing, and his patience at the plate was legendary. Finally inducted in 2019, it was a long time coming for this Mariner great.
So there you have it! Two Seattle Mariners superstars have taken their rightful place among baseball's immortals. Not too shabby, eh?
But Wait, There's More! (Sort Of)
Okay, technically there are a few other players in the Mariners' own Mariners Hall of Fame, but that's a whole different ballgame (pun intended). Still, it's a fun way to celebrate some other franchise greats!
Still, two in the real Hall of Fame ain't bad for a team that hasn't won the big one. Here's to hoping there are many more Mariners on the way!
