Google Doodle honors Lucy Wills on her 131st birth anniversary

Google commemorates the British hematologist Lucy Wills, with her beautiful scribbles on her 131st birthday.

Born in England in 1888, he is remembered for his exemplary research to prevent prenatal anemia. This is their research that leads to the creation of prenatal vitamins that help prevent birth defects.

He obtained his first honors degree in botany and geology at Newnham College, Cambridge, in 1911. In 1914 he devoted himself to medicine, when he worked as a nurse in Cape Town when the First World War broke out. In 1915, he enrolled at the London School of Medicine for Women and became a doctor with a legal qualification in 1920, where he graduated in medicine and science.

When investigating anemia in pregnant women in India, he found that there was a correlation between eating habits and the possibility of them becoming anemic during pregnancy.

In a laboratory study, he found that the health of the monkey improved after being fed at breakfast, Marmite. Subsequent research shows that this factor is folic acid, which is now recommended for pregnant women throughout the world. This discovery is known as a "testament factor."

He spent the rest of his life traveling and studying the effects of nutrition on pregnancy before dying on April 16, 1964.
