Microsoft shows off the 2019 Office of the Future

It's been a number of years since Microsoft revealed their vision of work rather than launching a new video this year. They presented journalists to a 7,000 square foot vision center located in Redmond, Washington.

Because less CGI is used, the technology displayed is far more realistic. Although there are still large screens and augmented reality headsets, many innovations are based on software, in this case, specifically, Fluid Framework.

Fluid Framework divides documents into modular components which can then be combined in various ways. This makes it possible, for example, that Microsoft makes an opening screen with the latest documents and other information in the data source and combines components when dragging and dropping. Some users can collaborate at the same time and Microsoft is considering artificial intelligence that combines text, photos and videos in one style.

"The underlying architecture can handle all types of data," said Mike Morton, Fluid Framework program manager at Microsoft. "We don't show any audio or video ... but I would say that there is actually technology underlying this kind of support."

This technology will be open and integrated with the Web, which means it can far surpass Microsoft.
