Los Angeles: Sunshine Capital of the Universe (Except for Those Other 102 Days)
Ah, Los Angeles. The land of dreams, movie stars, and, most importantly for us weather nerds, sunshine. Lots and lots of sunshine. But how much sunshine, exactly? Buckle up, because we're about to dive headfirst into the glorious vat of Vitamin D that is the City of Angels.
Sun's Out, Buns Out (Most of the Time)
Let's get down to brass tacks. Los Angeles boasts an average of 263 sunny days per year. That's basically summer all year round, except with slightly less chance of an embarrassing sunburn thanks to the cool ocean breeze (which, let's face it, can also mess up a good beach hair day).
Hold on, Not So Fast There, Sunshine McSunnyface
Now, before you pack your swimsuit and head straight to LAX, here's a reality check: those 263 days are just an average. That means there are also about 102 days where the weather might be a little less, well, sunshine-y. We're talking clouds, maybe even a sprinkle or two (gasp!).
But Don't Panic! Even on those slightly less-than-stellar days, Los Angeles is known for its mild climate. So, you probably won't need to break out the parka, even in the depths of winter.
So, How Sunny Do You Want It?
Los Angeles offers a bit of everything. Want to perfect your tan? There's a good chance you can do that most days. Want to experience all four seasons (kind of)? Well, you might be out of luck, but you'll get a taste of something close.
The bottom line: Los Angeles is a sunny paradise, with enough occasional cloud cover to keep things interesting (and maybe give your retinas a break from all that dazzling sunshine).
P.S. If you do happen to visit during one of those rare cloudy days, don't fret! There are still plenty of awesome indoor activities to enjoy. Plus, you can always pretend you're filming a noir detective movie.
