Yeehaw! Looks like you might be hankerin' for some top-notch women's basketball down in the great state of Texas. Now, Texas may be all about ten-gallon hats and boots, but it also boasts a mighty fine WNBA team – the Dallas Wings. That's right, partner, just one lone star shining bright for the WNBA in Texas.
Hold your horses there, champ! Before you start thinkin' Texas is slackin' in the women's basketball department, let's mosey on back a few years.
Where Did All the Texas WNBA Teams Go?
Back in the day, Texas used to be a WNBA two-steppin' powerhouse. We had the Houston Comets, who were basically shootin' nothin' but net and rackin' up championships like nobody's business (four in total, to be exact!). Sadly, the Comets done rode off into the sunset in 2008, leavin' a dusty trail of tears (and maybe a few deflated basketballs) behind.
But fear not, basketball fan! The Dallas Wings are here to carry the torch, swishin' threes and slam dunkin' expectations (well, maybe not quite slam dunking, but you get the idea).
Why Just One WNBA Team in Texas?
Now, this here's a real head-scratcher. Texas is a big state, full of passionate sports fans. Maybe folks got busy wranglin' cattle or perfectin' their two-step, but somethin' kept other WNBA teams from puttin' down roots.
Here's a theory (completely unconfirmed, mind you): Maybe Texas is so good at basketball, they figured one team was enough to dominate the whole league. We wouldn't put it past 'em!

Even though Texas is currently a one-horse town in the WNBA, there's still plenty to cheer about. The Dallas Wings are a force to be reckoned with, and who knows, maybe someday soon another Texas team will come moseyin' on back into the league.
