Tired of Being "The Franchise" or "Bob Loblaw"? Renaming Your Character in MLB The Show 23
Let's face it, folks. The thrill of creating your dream baseball player in MLB The Show 23 can quickly turn stale when you're stuck with a name like "Ken Griffey Jr. Jr." or, worse yet, the default "The Franchise." Fear not, fellow gamers! There's a way to shed your generic moniker and become the legend you were always meant to be.
But First, Why Change Your Name?
- Been There, Done That: Maybe you made your character back in the PS2 days and those early naming choices just haven't aged well. "xX_XtremeXBaseballX_Xx" might have seemed cool in 2005, but trust me, it's not striking fear into the hearts of pitchers in 2023.
- Living the Meme: Did you name your character after a hilarious internet meme? Funny? Sure. But after your 100th home run, the joke starts to wear thin.
- Embrace Your Inner Superhero: Look, some of us dream of being the next Mike Trout. Others dream of being Captain Comet, the baseball-playing alien with a laser arm. You do you, champ.
Alright, Alright, How Do I Actually Change My Name?
The process depends on which glorious mode you're rocking in MLB The Show 23:
-
Road to the Show: This is where you craft your baseball superstar from the ground up. Thankfully, renaming is a breeze. Just head into the My Player menu, find the "Edit Ballplayer" option, and there you have it! Change that name with pride. Pro tip: Don't pick something so outrageous that the announcers struggle to pronounce it. You might end up with "Mystery Player" on the scoreboard, which is less than ideal.
-
Franchise Mode: Here, you control the entire team, from trades to stadium hot dog prices (important stuff!). You can't directly rename existing players, but there's a sneaky workaround. Head over to the Edit Rosters menu and find the player you want to rename. You can't change their given name, but you can edit their last name! Go wild! Just remember, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might look a little strange with the last name "Buttersworth."
-
Diamond Dynasty: This mode is all about building your dream team of MLB stars and legends. Unfortunately, you can't rename these guys. They come with the baggage of their real names, just like us mere mortals. But hey, maybe if you play well enough, you'll inspire a future legend to name themselves after you!
There you have it, folks! With a little effort, you can ditch the boring name and become a legend worthy of the Cooperstown plaque (or at least a cool nickname from the announcers). Now get out there and mash some dingers!
