Rocket League on Steam in 2022: A Hilarious Odyssey (Because Apparently, Time Travel is Easier)
Ah, 2022. A simpler time. A time when gas prices were outrageous, but at least you could snag a copy of Rocket League on Steam for free. Those were the days, my friends. But fear not, fellow car-soccer enthusiasts of 2024! While the DeLorean might be out of commission (thanks to Biff and his shenanigans, no doubt), there are still ways to get your fix of vehicular mayhem through the glorious Steam interface.
Option 1: The "Dust off Your Old Steam Account" Maneuver
This method is for those of you who, like me, hoarded free games like squirrels hoard nuts.
- Unearth your Steam account. Remember that login you haven't used since, well, 2022? Give it a good ol' archaeological dig. You might even find some gems from the free weekend era (RIP).
- Boot up the Steam client and... oh wait. This is where things get tricky. Since Rocket League went free-to-play on the Epic Games Store back in... checks calendar ...holy moly, 2020, you might be out of luck here. But hey, it's worth a shot, right? Stranger things have happened (like, you know, the entire plot of Back to the Future).
Option 2: Operation "Non-Steam Game"
This method is for the adventurous souls who aren't afraid to bend the rules (of Steam library organization, that is).
- Download Rocket League from the Epic Games Store. Yes, I know, I know. But trust me, there's a light at the end of the tunnel (and it's not an oncoming train... hopefully).
- Head over to your Steam library. It's probably lonely in there without Rocket League. Let's fix that.
- Click "Add a Game" in the bottom left corner. This is where the magic happens.
- Select "Add a Non-Steam Game". Prepare to break the boundaries of Steam-only experiences.
- Navigate to the deepest, darkest corners of your Epic Games folder. Just follow the breadcrumbs of uninstalled games and rage-quit sessions.
- Find the Rocket League executable. This bad boy is your ticket to Steam glory.
- Add it to your Steam library and...Voila! Rocket League, now a part of your meticulously curated Steam collection (or at least, hidden amongst all those free weekend games).
Now you can launch Rocket League directly from Steam! Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility. The responsibility to whoop some serious butt in those online matches, of course.
Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Steam or Epic Games, and this guide is purely for entertainment purposes. Also, please don't break the space-time continuum trying to go back to 2022 for free Rocket League. Trust me, the gas prices then were no joke.
