Ryerson University: A Quest... by Subway. Don't Worry, We've Got You Covered (Unless You End Up In Scarborough).
So, you're the new hotshot headed to Ryerson University, Toronto's crown jewel of coolness (according to every Ryerson student ever). But with a city as sprawling as the T-Rex in Jurassic Park, getting there can feel like navigating a prehistoric jungle. Fear not, fellow adventurer, for this guide will be your compass (or maybe your Presto card) on your quest to Ryerson by TTC subway.
First things first: Arm Yourself (with the right info)
-
Presto Card: This is your magic ticket (literally) to the subway system. You can grab one at most stations and load it up with cash or a pass. Pro tip: Adult fares apply after 9 am, so if you're an early bird, you might snag a student discount!
-
TTC App: Your digital BFF. This app has live updates, maps, and even an option to plan your trip. It's basically a GPS for the subway, except it won't judge you for accidentally getting off at Sheppard West Station when you meant Spadina.
-
Knowledge is Power (and prevents getting lost): Ryerson is smack dab in the heart of downtown Toronto. The closest stations are Dundas and Yonge-Shuter. Remember this, young grasshopper.
Here's the Lowdown (on getting there)
No matter where you're coming from in Toronto, you'll likely end up on either the Yonge-University line (blue line) or the Bloor-Danforth line (green line). Here's a cheat sheet:
-
Yonge-University Line (Blue Line): If you see blue, you're on the right track (pun intended). This line runs north-south and cuts right through Ryerson's backyard. Just hop off at Dundas station and follow the masses of students with backpacks.
-
Bloor-Danforth Line (Green Line): East or west, this line will get you there (ish). If you're coming from the east side, take the green line westbound and transfer to the blue line southbound at Sherbourne station. Coming from the west? Take the green line eastbound and transfer to the blue line southbound at St. George station. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
Bonus Round: You Made It! (Except when you didn't)
Congratulations, you've braved the subway and emerged victorious (hopefully not smelling like rush hour). Ryerson should be within walking distance of the station. Just follow the throngs of chattering students, they're like a human compass, except with a higher chance of discussing last night's Netflix binge than directions.
However, if you see palm trees and a giant mall, you've probably ended up in Scarborough (don't worry, it happens to the best of us). Just grab a coffee, regroup, and try again. Ryerson awaits!
