Tired of Tired Times New Roman? How to Spice Up Your Mac's Font Game (Without Turning into Comic Sans Comic)
Let's face it, the font selection on a fresh Mac is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Times New Roman? Yawn. Helvetica? Been there, done that. But fear not, fellow font enthusiasts! There's a whole world of typographical wonder waiting to be unleashed on your documents, presentations, and even that grocery list you still haven't tackled.
Here's how to install fonts on your Mac and go from font-basic to font-fantastic, because who says functionality can't be fabulous?
Step 1: Downloading Your Dream Font
Think of this as your font shopping spree. There are a ton of free and paid font websites out there, but be sure to choose a reputable one – you wouldn't want your Mac to get a case of the digital sniffles from a dodgy download!
Pro Tip: When browsing fonts, think about the project you'll be using them for. A playful script font might be perfect for a birthday card, but for that legal document due tomorrow? Maybe stick with something a tad more professional.
Step 2: The Glorious Font Book
Every Mac comes with a built-in app called Font Book, which is basically the Willy Wonka chocolate factory of fonts (minus the creepy oompa loompas, hopefully). This is where the magic happens.
There are three ways to get your downloaded font into Font Book:

The Menu Bar Maestro: Open Font Book, then head to "File" > "Add Fonts." A window will pop up, allowing you to browse and select your downloaded font file. Once chosen, double-click the file to install.
Step 3: Party Time! (Well, Almost)
You've downloaded your font, you've installed it in Font Book, – now you're ready to unleash your inner typography genius on the world! Open any program that uses fonts (think Pages, TextEdit, Keynote, etc.) and look for the font selection menu. Your newly installed font should be there, waiting to be chosen.
Important Note: Sometimes, applications need a little nudge to recognize a new font. Close and reopen the program you're using, and your new font should appear in all its glory.
