Howdy, Partner! DCI Drum Corps in the Lone Star State
You might be drawlin' a blank (or should that be a flag?) when it comes to DCI groups down here in Texas. But fear not, pilgrim, this here guide will sort you out faster than you can say "yeehaw!"
The Lone Star DCI Posse: A Two-Step Tale
Now, Texas might not be crawling with DCI groups like ants on a picnic blanket, but we do boast a mighty fine two-step worth:
- The Crossmen (San Antonio): These folks moseyed on over from the East Coast a couple years back, bringing their fancy footwork and "Go Bones!" tradition to the heart of Texas. Seems they swapped the hustle and bustle of city life for some good ol' Texas hospitality, and who can blame them?
- Genesis (Austin): Now, Genesis might be a tad younger than your grandpappy's boots, but they're sure makin' a name for themselves. Based in the live music capital of the world (that's Austin, by the way!), these young guns are bringin' the heat (and maybe a two-step or two) to the DCI scene.
Hold on your ten-gallon hats, partners! There's more to the Texas DCI story than just these two fine groups. Texas might not have a corps in every dusty town, but we sure do have a legion of passionate fans who come out in force to cheer on these phenomenal performers. Every year, DCI shows roll through our state, from the Alamodome smack dab in San Antonio to the Houston heat. These shows are a sight to behold, with dazzling lights, heart-pounding percussion, and brass that'll make your boots want to boogie.
So You Want to See a DCI Show in Texas?
Well, bless your cotton socks! Here's the lowdown:
- Keep your eyes peeled for show announcements around May or June. Local news outlets and the DCI website [DCI website] are your best bets.
- Tickets are your golden lasso to this rootin' tootin' good time. Grab yours online or at the venue (but get there early, these shows are popular!).
- Brush up on your DCI lingo. You don't want to be left sayin' "what in tarnation is a guard?" when that fancy flag team takes the field.
Now, git out there and show your support! These DCI groups work their horns off (literally!), and a Texas-sized cheer from the audience is the best reward they can get. You might even find yourself tappin' your foot or two – just don't forget your manners and mind the folks around you!
