Ah, Jess Mariano. The brooding bad boy with a heart of... well, maybe not gold, but definitely filled with a yearning for something more. Rory Gilmore's love interest with a rebellious streak wider than Lorelai's love of coffee. But where did he go, and more importantly, when does he grace Stars Hollow with his presence once more after his California escapade? Buckle up, Gilmore fans, because we're taking a hilarious trek through Jess' geographical journey (and some of the mayhem he leaves in his wake).
Season 3, Episode 22: "Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days" - The Farewell (and Minor Mayhem)
This is it, folks. The tearful (well, maybe not so tearful for Jess) goodbye. After some stolen moments with Rory under the Friday night lights (because apparently, small-town football is the ultimate setting for teenage angst), Jess decides to head west in search of his estranged father. Hold on to your hats, because this one's a doozy! We have Rory, neck-deep in college applications and existential dread, when BAM! Jess pops back up in Stars Hollow like a rogue Jack-in-the-Box. Except, this Jess is... different. He's (gasp!) working on a novel, and he actually seems to have a plan (sort of). This return is full of unresolved feelings, awkward encounters, and a whole lot of "will they, won't they?" tension.
So, the answer is...
Season 4, Episode 13! But remember, Jess' return to Stars Hollow is just the beginning of his journey (both geographically and emotionally). There are more pop-ins, more longing glances, and maybe even a stolen kiss or two (we're not saying, watch the show!).
