Now, before you pack your swimsuits (they frown on those), let's take a whistlestop tour of some of the institutions that house our nation's, ahem, distinguished guests.
From Wine Country to Fences: High-Security in the Golden State

USP Atwater: Ever heard of the "Alcatraz of the Central Valley"? USP Atwater might not have quite the same chilling reputation as The Rock, but it's no walk on the beach either. This high-security joint houses some serious characters, so don't expect any poolside chats.

USP Lompoc: Surf's up... at least a few miles away from USP Lompoc. This prison offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, but the only waves you'll be catching are probably of a disciplinary nature. Oceanfront property, not so much.

FCI Dublin: Don't let the name fool you, this Dublin is a far cry from the Guinness and pub crawls. FCI Dublin is a medium-security prison, which basically means inmates get slightly less "fancy" accommodations than their high-security counterparts. Think less Alcatraz, more dorm room with bars.

FCI Victorville: Out in the Mojave Desert, FCI Victorville offers sunshine year-round, perfect for... well, contemplating your life choices, I guess. This medium-security prison boasts two separate facilities, so you might even get a roommate (joy!).
Minimum Security: When Prison Feels Like... Less Prison-y?
- FCI Terminal Island: Ever wondered what it's like to be incarcerated off the coast of Los Angeles? Look no further than FCI Terminal Island. This minimum-security prison might be the closest you get to an ocean view in the federal system (unless you count that murky puddle in the prison yard).
Important Note: When I say "minimum security," don't get any ideas about filing for a prison transfer based on proximity to the beach. These facilities are still prisons, so don't expect any Mai Tais by the pool.
