Uh Oh! Is it Eclipse Time Again in Los Angeles?
Ever stare up at the sun (don't do that, by the way!) and wonder if it's about to be chomped on by the moon? Los Angeles folks are used to living life in the shadow of Hollywood legends, but what about the celestial kind?
Fear not, eclipse enthusiasts! While there isn't an eclipse happening in Los Angeles right this very second (cue dramatic music ending), we can explore the wonderful world of when the next one might be.
Los Angeles: Land of (Future) Eclipses
Our friends at the Griffith Observatory have the inside scoop on all things astronomical, including eclipses. According to their website, Los Angeles doesn't have any eclipses on the horizon (pun intended) until September 18th, 2024. That's a penumbral lunar eclipse, which basically means the Earth's shadow is going to faintly blur across the moon's face. Not quite as dramatic as a full-on bite, but hey, space is all about perspective!
Eclipse Chasers: Unite!
If you're simply itching to witness a celestial showdown, don't despair! Eclipses happen all over the world, and with a little planning, you can be there front row (metaphorically speaking, of course) to witness the magic. There are websites and even eclipse-chasing cruises that can help you plan your next cosmic adventure.
In the meantime, keep your eyes peeled for the September eclipse, and who knows, maybe you'll even catch a glimpse of a UFO (hey, a man can dream!). Just remember, if you are gazing at the night sky, make sure to do it safely! There are plenty of resources online to help you stargaze responsibly.
