Hilary Makes a Splash: When Will La La Land Get Soaked?
Ah, Los Angeles. The land of sunshine, celebrities, and...hurricanes? Well, maybe not hurricanes exactly, but Tropical Storm Hilary is promising to shake things up a bit. Forget dodging paparazzi, Angelenos – you might be dodging rogue pool noodles blown by the wind!
So, the burning question everyone wants answered: When will Hilary grace (or shall we say, disgrace) LA with her presence?
The good news (sort of) is that Hurricane Hilary peaked a little early. Remember those dramatic news reports about a potential Cat 3 who would knock down palm trees and turn Rodeo Drive into a raging river? Yeah, those can be filed under "Dramatic Weather Overhype." Hilary downgraded to a tropical storm by the time she made landfall in Baja California on Sunday.
But that doesn't mean LA is off the hook completely. Buckle up, buttercup, because here's the downpour on the downpour:
- Brace yourselves for a soaking: Expect scattered showers and possible thunderstorms throughout Sunday. It's not gonna be a full-on monsoon, but you might want to ditch the pool party and hit the spa instead (because, frankly, what's more LA than getting pampered during a storm?).
- The real threat? Flash Floods! Sunday evening is looking like the prime time for heavy rain, especially in those glamorous Hollywood Hills. Translation: Don't be that person trying to surf down Mulholland Drive on a boogie board. It's not going viral, it's going viral for all the wrong reasons.
- Monday Morning Blues (and Maybe Some Mudslides): Though the worst of the storm should be over by then, there's still a chance of lingering showers and a slight risk of mudslides in the mountains and deserts. So, maybe reschedule that hike to Runyon Canyon – nobody wants to be THAT person stuck in a flash flood selfie fail.
Here's the bottom line: While Hilary won't be the blockbuster disaster movie everyone was anticipating, it's still a good idea to be prepared for some rain and possible flooding. Stock up on snacks (because what's better than emergency movie marathons with friends?), break out the raincoats (because nobody looks fabulous getting soaked), and most importantly, relax and enjoy the (hopefully) brief weather drama. After all, a little rain never hurt anyone's tan...much.
