You Applied to Sam Houston? Hold Onto Your Stetson (But Chill, We'll Find Your Status)
Howdy applicant! So you tossed your hat in the ring for Sam Houston State University – that's mighty big of you! Now, the waiting game begins. You check your email every two seconds, your phone vibrates and you think it's THE email, but nope, just Aunt Mildred with another batch of her famous (questionable?) pecan pie recipes. Fear not, fellow hopeful, for this here guide will lasso your application status and drag it into the light!
Saddle Up, Partner, It's Time to Check the Self-Service Center
First things first, you gotta mosey on over to the SHSU Self Service Center (think of it as your own personal application rodeo). This is where all the wrangling happens – transcripts, test scores, the whole shebang. But before you jump in, here's a heads up:
- Did You Create an Account? If you haven't already, you'll need to create an account using the info you received after submitting your ApplyTexas application. Don't worry, it ain't harder than wrangling a runaway armadillo (hopefully you haven't had to do that).
 - Howdy, Application Status! Once you're logged in, there should be a section dedicated to your application status. It might say something like "In Review" or "Hogtied by the Bureaucracy Beast" (okay, maybe not the last one, but you get the idea).

Hold Your Horses! There Might Be Another Portal
If you applied to the College of Osteopathic Medicine (fancy way of saying medical school, partner), you'll need to head over to a different corral – the COM Admissions Portal. Same rodeo, different chute. Just follow the instructions in your welcome email to create an account and check your status there.
Still Nothin'? Don't Fret, There's Always Email
Sometimes, technology can be slower than a molasses festival in July. If the Self-Service Center or COM Admissions Portal ain't giving up the goods, fret not! Sam Houston should also send you an email notification once your application decision is made. So, keep an eye out and avoid the urge to bombard their inbox (they get a lot of hopeful cowboys and cowgirls, you see).
Bonus Tip: Patience is a Virtue (Especially in Texas)
The application review process can take some time, so try to relax and channel your inner zen master. In the meantime, distract yourself with some bootscootin' tunes or contemplate the finer points of rodeo strategy.
And There You Have It, Partner!
With a little know-how and a heaping helping of patience, you'll be wrangling your application status in no time. Now, git along, little doggie (that's you), and remember, Sam Houston awaits!
