Hold Your Horses...The Not-So-Great News
Dramatic pause (because every good story needs a bit of suspense)...
The University of Texas at Austin, as of today, May 4th, 2024, has two Heisman trophies. Not a vault overflowing with golden guys, but two mighty fine ones nonetheless.
But wait! There's more! Texas has a history of producing some truly phenomenal players who came oh so close to snagging that Heisman.
The Heartbreak Hotel: Texas Heisman Near Misses
Here's a look at a few Longhorn legends who almost brought the Heisman home:
- Ricky Williams (1998): This electrifying running back, nicknamed "Texas Ricky" for a reason, was a touchdown machine. He finished a very respectable 2nd place in the Heisman race.
 - Colt McCoy (2009): Colt McCoy's leadership and skill on the field earned him a 3rd place finish in the Heisman voting.
 - Vince Young (2005): Vince Young, well, he's a legend. While he came in 2nd in the Heisman race, he led Texas to a National Championship victory – so that's not too shabby!

So What's the Deal?
Two Heismans is nothing to scoff at, but Texas fans are a passionate bunch. We dream of the day another Longhorn will etch their name in Heisman history.
Will that day come? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure: Texas will keep putting out fantastic football players, and we'll keep cheering them on every Saturday. Hook 'Em Horns!
