Ah, Houston. The land of rodeos, refineries, and...unfortunately, we gotta talk about it...school shootings. Look, nobody likes this topic, but knowledge is power, and a little humor (like laughter in the face of a hoot owl) can't hurt. So, saddle up, let's get to the bottom of this, yeehaw!
But First, How Do We Define a "School Shooting"?
Now hold your horses. Not every incident with a BB gun in the cafeteria counts. Generally, a school shooting is when a firearm is discharged intentionally within a school building or on school grounds during school hours. There might be injuries, or worse, but some definitions focus on the intent and location rather than just the outcome.

The Not-So-Good News: Houston hasn't been completely immune to this national nightmare. In fact, the Santa Fe High School shooting in 2018 left a dark mark on the city, claiming ten innocent lives.
The Kinda Good News?: Thankfully, major school shootings in Houston seem to be relatively rare. There haven't been any major incidents since 2018 (knock on wood).
Here's the Kicker: This doesn't mean we shouldn't be vigilant. School safety is no laughing matter (although if it were, just imagine the dodgeball game that erupts when the fire alarm goes off...hilarious, right?).
But Hey, Let's End on a Positive Note!
Look, school shootings are a serious issue, but Houston seems to be doing better than some other parts of the country. Here's to hoping it stays that way!
