How Big is Houston? Bigger Than Your Texas-Sized Ego, That's For Sure

You might think you've got a handle on things, buddy. Maybe you're a trucker who's crisscrossed the country or a pilot who's seen it all from way up high. But let me tell you somethin', when it comes to Houston, you better hold onto your hat! This ain't your average city sprawl, this is a Texan titan that stretches on for what seems like forever.

So, How Big Are We Talking Here?

Now, I know what you're thinkin'. You gotta be throwin' around some big numbers to impress me, right? Well, buckle up, buttercup, because Houston's size is as outrageous as a rodeo clown's outfit.

We're talkin' 637.4 square miles (give or take a pothole) to be exact. That's enough space to fit all of New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, and Miami inside our city limits, with room left over for a good ol' fashioned Texas BBQ. Heck, if Houston was its own state, it would rank 20th in population, beating out Minnesota and Colorado! Can you imagine the cowboy hats on all those state legislators?

But Wait, There's More! (Because in Texas, Everything is Bigger)

Now, that 637.4 square miles might sound impressive, but that's just the city itself. Houston's got a whole entourage travelling with it. The Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area sprawls out over a whopping 10,062 square miles. That's bigger than the entire state of Massachusetts and just a smidge smaller than New Jersey. You could get lost wanderin' around these parts easier than a tumbleweed in a hurricane.

There's even an even BIGGER definition of Houston, called the Houston-The Woodlands, TX combined statistical area, which includes some of our neighbours. This behemoth clocks in at a knee-buckling 12,476 square miles, that's larger than the entire state of Maryland!

So, the next time you think you've got Houston figured out, think again. This Texas city is a sprawling metropolis that keeps on surprising. Just remember, if you ever get lost, look for the nearest cowboy hat - they're bound to know their way around these here parts.
