California Dreaming of a White (and Very Snowy) Christmas...in May?
Ah, California. The land of sunshine, beaches, and...blizzards? You heard that right, folks. This winter, Mother Nature decided to trade in the flip flops for snow boots and turn California into a winter wonderland (or at least a moderately snowy wonderland, depending on where you are).
So, How Much Snow Are We Talking About?
Let's just say the ski resorts are doing a happy dance and the squirrels are stocking up on nuts like crazy. California has seen some epic snowfall this year, shattering records and leaving mountains piled high with the white stuff.

Breaking News: Records Are Toast! Mammoth Mountain is bragging (and rightfully so) about crushing their 13-year record for snowfall. We're talking a whopping 695 inches since October 1st! That's almost 60 feet of snow!
-
The Great Sierra Snowpack Extravaganza: California's mountains are boasting a snowpack that's way above average. In some areas, it's nearly triple what they normally see! That's good news for summer water supplies, but maybe not so good for those who like their mountains a little less, well, mountainous.
But Wait, There's More! (Because Seriously, There's a Lot of Snow)
Even as we speak (well, as you read), California is still getting hammered with snow. Just this week, some spots saw up to 2.75 inches of fresh powder! While that might not seem like much compared to the season's totals, it's enough to keep those ski bums happy and those springtime wildflowers a little bit buried.
So, What Does This All Mean?
Well, for one thing, it means Californians might need to add a shovel to their pool maintenance kit. But more importantly, it's a sign of a healthy winter season that will provide much-needed water supplies in the drier months.
Plus, hey, who doesn't love a good snowball fight in May? Just be sure to pack some sunscreen along with your winter coat – it is California after all.
