Back in December of 1947 (that's way before smartphones and social media), Hapeville High School, under the awesome leadership of Mrs. Catharine Merrill, decided to get the ball rolling. This intrepid group became the very first FBLA chapter in Georgia, officially chartered as Chapter No. 83 by the national organization. Apparently, they were itching to hone their business skills way before the rest of the state!
Fun Fact: This puts Georgia as the fourth state to ever have an FBLA chapter! We weren't first, but hey, top five ain't bad!
From a Single Chapter to a Business Leader Bonanza!
Two years later, in 1949, Georgia wasn't satisfied with just one chapter. They craved a statewide FBLA empire! That's when the state snagged its official charter, solidifying its place as a breeding ground for future business titans. Dr. Zeb Vance of Mercer University, Macon, became the first state advisor, and the rest, as they say, is history.
