Dynamo Diesel: The Foxy Mascot of Houston
Who’s That Foxy Fellow?
Let’s talk about the Houston Dynamo. Not the team itself (though they’re pretty cool), but rather, their furry, orange-haired, high-energy mascot: Dynamo Diesel. If you’ve ever been to a Dynamo game and wondered, “Is that a real fox on steroids?”, then you’re not alone. But fear not, animal lovers! Diesel is a human in a costume, although we can’t promise he doesn’t have a secret fox-like agility hidden beneath that fur.
A Fox in the Soccer World
Diesel wasn’t always a Dynamo. He was born in a design contest at the Art Institute of Houston, the brainchild of Eric Hulsey and Leslie Lopez. Their winning creation, a fiery-haired fox, captured the spirit of the team and was unveiled at the Houston Zoo in 2007. It's safe to say, he's been causing a stir ever since.
From leading the crowd in cheers to performing gravity-defying stunts, Diesel is the life of the party. He’s the kind of guy who could make a cactus dance. Okay, maybe not a cactus, but you get the idea. He’s got more energy than a caffeinated squirrel on a sugar rush.
Diesel: More Than Just a Mascot
Beyond being the team’s official hype man, Diesel is also involved in community outreach programs. He’s visited schools, hospitals, and community events, spreading joy and soccer spirit wherever he goes. So, the next time you see this foxy fella, give him a high-five (or at least a wave, we wouldn’t want to mess up that fur).
