How to fix error 0xc0000225
To resolve the problem "Your machine has to be restored - 0xc0000225", follow the procedure below to start your computer from the Windows installation media. When you don't have Windows Media, you can also use the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
Run Start-up Repair
- 1. Start your desktop from the Windows installation media.
- 2. Click Next on the language options screen.
- 3. Select Repair your computer.
- 4. Then choose Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options –> Start-up Repair.
- 5. Select your Windows operating system and then follow the instructions on the screen to repair your computer.
- 6. If the repair process cannot resolve the error 0xc0000225, continue with the following method.
Fix Boot Files
- Start your computer from Windows Boot Media.
- Press Next on the language options screen.
- Select Repair your computer.
- Then select Troubleshooting -> Advanced Options -> Command Prompt.
- In the Command Prompt, type the following command. After every command, press the Enter key on your keyboard:
- bootrec /fixmbr
- bootrec /fixboot
- bootrec /scanos
- bootrec /rebuildbcd
- Press "A" to add the installation to the initial list and press Enter.
- Close the window of the prompt command.
- Reboot your machine and the error should be gone.
Disable Driver Signature Checking
This method works on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 computers with problems "Error code 0xc0000225 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media". A problem occurs when the computer has been turned on during Windows Update.
Step 1. Disable safe boot in BIOS
