To accelerate on Descenders PC you simply need to press the W key. This will cause your rider to speed up and as long as you continue to hold the key down you will maintain speed. You can release the W key to slow down as you approach jumps or turns but make sure you keep the speed up when heading down steep terrain. Don't hesitate to bail if things get too fast or you start to lose control. The faster you go the more intense the gameplay so don't be afraid to push yourself
