Wrigley Field: The Original LA Ballpark
You Think You Know Wrigley Field? Think Again!
So, you think Wrigley Field is that iconic ivy-covered gem on the North Side of Chicago? Well, you're half right. While the Chicago Wrigley is a baseball lover's pilgrimage site, there was another Wrigley Field, and it was totally in LA. Yep, you heard me right. Before the Friendly Confines became a household name, there was a Wrigley Field in the heart of Los Angeles.
LA's Forgotten Field of Dreams
Built in 1925, this LA Wrigley Field was a stunning ballpark with Spanish-style architecture. It was the place to be for baseball fans, and even hosted some pretty big events like a Martin Luther King Jr. civil rights rally. But alas, like all good things, it had to come to an end. The stadium was demolished in 1969 to make way for... well, we're not entirely sure, but probably a parking lot. Classic LA, right?
So, what happened to the LA Angels?
Good question! The LA Angels actually played their home games at the original Wrigley Field. But when the stadium bit the dust, they moved on to bigger and better things. Or, well, maybe not better things at first. They ended up playing in the LA Coliseum for a few years before settling into Dodger Stadium.
The Wrigley Field Legacy
Even though the LA Wrigley Field is no more, its legacy lives on. It's a fascinating piece of baseball history, and it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best stories are the ones we almost forgot.
So, next time you're in Chicago and soaking up the Wrigley Field vibes, take a moment to appreciate the ballpark's less-known sibling. And who knows, maybe one day there will be a Wrigley Field in every major city. A girl can dream, right?
